Day 1 (6/2): Seattle, WA; Orientation

Team Photos

Got into Seattle safe and sound yesterday with bags and bike intact. It was great to see some familiar faces from past events - Shanklin, Sheffler, Sollner, and Brent. In true Londoner fashion Brent suggests we get a drink first thing, so we go down to the little hotel bar where he enjoys 3 pints to my one, cheers! Also got to meet Justin, a Westchester, PA native who had served as a crew chief for military planes in Iraq. Mike the bartender gives me some good tips on places to see in Seattle for the ride the next day, after which I spend the rest of Friday puttin my bike together, gettin settled in, and knockin out some of those damn music appreciation courses.

Saturday was the first official day for the team members to arrive; while the crew was picking them all up from the airport Justin and I decided to take a ride around town. Despite spending the majority of the ride figuring out where we were, we did manage to ride through the arboretum (a cool park with big trees) and Pike's Fish market where the mongers toss the big ole' fish around to the delight of the crowd (and they have a weird fascination with pigs). The rest of the day was taken up by the first of the team meetings going over policies and procedures and all that fun stuff at the UW Pi Kapp house. The greek houses at UW were RIDICULOUS...some held up to 75 people. Just like home at VT the Kappa Delta's and the Pi Kapps were next-door neighbors - nice.

First of the early wake-ups is tomorrow....thankfully a little jetlag actually helps out this time...
